HKS have updated their long-running slide cam sprocket for the SR20. As an engine is developed further, camshaft changes and other modifications shift the optimal valve timing away from standard. This sprocket allows the timing angle to be adjusted to suit increased duration and overlap between the intake and exhaust cams, giving finer control over valve timing.
Adjustment range is ±20° of crank angle against standard, with each marking on the inner plate corresponding to roughly 2°. The centre marking matches standard pulley timing. The sprocket is marked A for advance and R for retard to reduce the risk of adjusting the wrong way.
It works with a standard camshaft, though the greatest gains come from pairing it with HKS camshafts set to the recommended valve timing. The exhaust side sprocket now arrives with the drive gear already press-fitted, so the standard gear does not need to be reused or bought separately.
