The RS coil myth
Swapping in ignition coils from a higher-output Audi RS model — most often the 2.5T — has long been treated as a cheap way to gain spark energy on a tuned 1.8T or 2.0T. APR put the theory on the bench, and it doesn't hold up: those coils measured no stronger than the factory items already fitted to 1.8T and 2.0T engines. What they offer is a different part number, not more energy.
What APR changed instead
Rather than reshuffling OEM stock, APR reworked the internals. The copper winding runs at a greater diameter, which drops resistance, and the neodymium magnet is both larger and stronger than standard. Together those changes lift energy output by 14% over the factory coil, giving a stronger and more consistent spark — the sort of margin that matters once boost and cylinder pressure climb beyond stock. The APR-branded housing marks them out under the bonnet, but the gain is mechanical rather than cosmetic; this is a genuine upgrade that happens to look the part.
Proven before it ships
Coils are batch tested to over 73 hours of operation, working out at 15,768,000 individual firings, and every unit carries a one-year unlimited-mileage direct-replacement warranty.
