Airtec Motorsport Intercooler Upgrade for SEAT Leon Mk1 150 Diesel
This 150PD diesel intercooler upgrade for the Seat Leon Mk1 uses Airtec's popular Cupra R intercooler, capable of 400bhp, complete with a full alloy boost pipe kit, custom-made silicone hoses and coolant rad pack brackets that secure the radiator and air-con radiator in place (a job the standard intercooler normally does).
VAG's factory front mount intercooler copes fine on a standard car, but Airtec's testing showed intake temperatures climbing to high levels — and power dropping — as soon as even a basic Stage 1 remap was applied. A bigger, more efficient Airtec intercooler keeps intake temperatures consistently lower, protecting the engine while maximising power.
Tested
At AmD (Essex), on the standard map, Airtec's intercooler showed hot side temperatures of 128-135°C and cold side of 23-26°C across three runs. On an AmD Stage 1 remap, hot side temperatures rose to 156-162°C, with cold side holding at 26-28°C — the intercooler earns its keep most on more heavily modified cars, where a full exhaust and turbo upgrade could otherwise cost over 30bhp through inadequate cooling alone.
