Airtec Motorsport Intercooler Upgrade for 1.8/2.0 TSI EA888 Gen 4 Engine – 2020 Onwards
Developed at Airtec's UK HQ, this front mount intercooler builds on the proven success of Airtec's EA888 Gen 3 intercooler — a go-to choice on big power builds for seven years — adapting the same huge 16.4-litre core to fit around the air-con radiator on the Gen 4 platform.
This gives an 80% increase in overall capacity over the original intercooler and more frontal area to make the most of available airflow. Cast, moulded one-piece end tanks direct flow efficiently in and out of the core. It's a direct replacement finished in high-quality black powder coat, supplied with new Pro Hoses silicone boost pipes.
Tested
On a modified Golf R Mk7 at AmD Tuning's dyno, the standard intercooler produced 336.1bhp/350.9lb ft, versus 371.8bhp/352.9lb ft with Airtec's intercooler fitted. Temperature logging across two runs showed inlet temperatures around 115-117°C for both setups, but outlet temperatures of 44-48°C on the standard intercooler dropped to just 18-20°C with Airtec's fitted. All development was carried out in-house at Airtec's UK HQ, backed by UK track days and multiple trips to the Nürburgring.
