The Eventuri Carbon Intake for the 4.0 TFSI EA825 V8 is a ground-up redesign and optimisation of the entire air inlet track. Every component, including the lid, has been developed to allow the twin turbos to pull in air with less drag, resulting in industry leading performance gains.
The stock airbox lid restricts the size of the flow collector that feeds the inlets from the filters, so Eventuri raised the central section of the lid to allow a larger flow collector and larger cone filters — removing the inherent restriction that competitors retaining the stock lid are forced to work around. The prepreg carbon lid uses the same mounting points as the stock lid, and the system is 100% prepreg carbon fibre with no fibreglass for a smooth internal surface.
The biggest restriction in the stock system is the turbo inlets, which are small and have two flexible sections — the one immediately ahead of the turbo creating turbulence as the engine moves under acceleration. Eventuri removed the first flexible section and increased the internal volume, with the new inlets up to 43% larger in cross-sectional area than stock. A novel dimpled inner surface reduces frictional losses between the flow and the wall boundary, allowing air to move through at higher flow rates with reduced pressure loss — letting the turbos spool quicker and work with a lower wastegate duty cycle. Note that performance gains vary with different ECU tunes.
