The platform offered the perfect foundation \u2013 lightweight, rear-wheel drive, and fantastic handling characteristics \u2013 but we needed more power and the reliability to withstand the rigours of competitive rallying. The solution? A complete K-series engine swap, paired with comprehensive upgrades across every system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engine &amp; Drivetrain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The centrepiece of this build is undoubtedly the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tegiwa.com\/products\/4-piston-racing-k24-k400-2-5l-complete-engine-road-race-rally-no-core-required-including-valve-cover?_pos=1&amp;_psq=4piston+k400&amp;_ss=e&amp;_v=1.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4Piston K400 K24 2.5L engine<\/a><\/strong>. This isn&#8217;t just any K24 \u2013 it&#8217;s a purpose-built motorsport unit featuring ductile iron sleeves, a 99mm stroke, and an 89.5mm bore, all designed to deliver reliable power in demanding conditions. The increased displacement over a standard K24 gives us the low-end torque we need for rally stages while maintaining the Honda K-series&#8217; legendary high-RPM character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting a Honda engine to work seamlessly in a Toyota chassis is no small feat, which is where the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tegiwa.com\/products\/kpower-complete-kpower-86-swap-package-toyota-gt86-12-21?_pos=1&amp;_psq=kpower+gt86&amp;_ss=e&amp;_v=1.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KPower Industries Complete K-Swap Kit<\/a><\/strong> comes in. This comprehensive package includes everything from the transmission adapter plate to engine mounts, allowing us to mate the K24 to the factory GT86 six-speed manual gearbox. Power is delivered smoothly thanks to tuning from <strong>Robbie at TDP<\/strong>, but with plenty of bite when we need it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Managing this potent engine required serious hardware. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tegiwa.com\/products\/haltech-elite-1500-ecu-only?_pos=1&amp;_psq=haltech+elite+1500&amp;_ss=e&amp;_v=1.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Haltech Elite 1500 ECU<\/a><\/strong> serves as the brain of the operation, controlling everything from fuel delivery to launch control. We&#8217;ve paired it with a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tegiwa.com\/products\/haltech-bosch-electronic-throttle-body-with-connector-and-pins?variant=54932120502653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Haltech 82mm electronic throttle body<\/a><\/strong> for sharp response and a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tegiwa.com\/products\/skunk2-ultra-series-race-intake-manifold-3-5l-honda-k-series-k20-k24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Skunk2 Ultra Race inlet manifold<\/a><\/strong> with a 1-litre spacer to maximise airflow. Granted, the stock FA20 had covered 316,000 kilometres! That&#8217;s a 151bhp gain, transforming this car&#8217;s performance completely. But impressive as the headline figure is, it&#8217;s the delivery that matters most for rally. The K24&#8217;s broad, linear power band provides strong, predictable acceleration out of corners and excellent driveability across the rev range.
