After 7 rounds of hard fought contesting, and the first under the ‘Tegiwa Racing’ name, it was time to conclude the 2022 motorsport season. So, for the final time, we got ready to head to the final venue on the Time Attack calendar, Snetterton. The weather forecast for the day, as you’ll see in the images below, was torrential rain…

Luke Sedzikowski – Tsuki Honda NSX

After a successful day of testing prior to Time Attack, Tsuki looked to be working just fine and dandy. However, after Luke’s initial out lap in the warm up, the car wouldn’t select any gears. Try as the team might, it looked to be an unsolvable problem so an early exit was made. Now the off-season is here, Tsuki will be getting an overhaul ready for next year, complete with a Hollinger sequential gearbox that should solve the transmission issues we’ve been suffering with. Make sure you stay tuned to our blog as we bring you updates on Tsuki throughout the course of the winter.

David Lawrence – Leon Cupra

It’s fair to say that Dave had also had a pretty turbulent year himself too. Suffering from engine failure in round 2, Dave had worked tirelessly to get the car up and running again. After a 4th place finish in the final at Snetterton this saw Dave finish 3rd in the Club 2WD class.

Aaron Adams – BMW M4

Despite battling the elements early on, Aaron put in a massive shift this weekend after having plenty of ups and downs throughout the course of the season. Finishing 3rd in the final was enough to secure Aaron a second place finish in the Club 2WD class.

Ilya Kyrlov – Turbo Renault Clio

Ilya’s trusty Clio had changed rather a lot from the start of the 2022 season, with Ilya upgrading the car at every given opportunity. As the season went on and Ilya gelled with the car more and more his times continued to drop. However, it was a challenging time in the final round as despite not getting the results he was after, he still managed to bring home 3rd place in the Club Pro class.

Michael Hume – K-Swap Renault Clio

It’s also been a tough year for Michael too in the pocket rocket class. For 2022 Michael switched from the F4R to a Honda K20, however, it’s not been plain sailing as like other members of the team, Michael had suffered from engine failure earlier in the year too. This season has been about Michael getting to grips with his new found VTEC power, and he’ll be keen to push on even more next year.

Representing the Tegiwa Racing team in the Drift Pro Championship this year was Bizz in his supercharged 350Z! We caught up with Bizz after Snetterton and here’s what he had to say:

The final round of Drift Pro at Snetterton was the only wet round of the season, it was a complete wash out. A lot of people often think that drifting is better in the wet but the random levels of grip as we cross the racing line makes trying to anticipate what the car will do at speed challenge even the best of drivers.

Practice for me started with a nice 360 pass the judges tower and a spin into the tight hairpin, which prompted me to drop the pressure in the tyres down to 15psi in a hope of gaining some grip. Watching the other drivers launch from the line, I could see that almost everyone was struggling to gauge how much speed and angle to carry into the first corner. The amount of rain was changing by the minute as well, meaning any line that was starting to dry out quickly disappeared. Just before practice finished I came in for fresh tyres and a quick chat with Yogi. I fully softened off the rear suspension to get a bit more weight on to the rear under load. This did help but I still wasn’t feeling too confident going into qualifying.

The first lap of qualifying was very cautious into the first corner, with the entry speed being slower than I would’ve liked and not as close to the first clip. The rest of the lap was OK, feeling more confident in the mid section to carry more speed into the hairpin and through the transition up to the final corner. I got 79 points for that lap. For the second lap I thought I had to push a bit more to improve my score. Unfortunately, with the extra speed it felt like the car was going off track so I stayed off power for too long which made the rest of the lap quite messy. People could tell I was annoyed as the rest of the lap was done on the limiter!

I qualified 11th which is definitely not my best score of the season, however, I was in the game and first battle was against Mike Marshall in his awesome BMW 1 series.

He was the higher qualifier so he led into the first corner. I knew Mike had a lot of experience drifting in varying conditions so I had to be close on initiation. As he pulled on the handbrake I mimicked but then started to see him understeer massively, I started to brake and go for the under take at this point thinking he was going off circuit. Somehow, he managed to wrestle his car back in front of me and we continued the lap with him waving, apologising for it being such a difficult lap to follow. My lead run was clean and I took the win.

Moving into the Top 8 I had another battle with fellow gent Dave Bastin in his awesome AE86. I had been watching Dave all day and he was fast! I chased well, even with him throwing his rear bumper at me after a little dirt drop which I quickly sent back into the gravel. When I led Dave was at 100% but was a little too hot into turn 1 tapping me 3 times on the rear bumper with his wheel causing him to stall his drift and I pulled a large gap. It wasn’t the win I would’ve liked against him as clean battles are always the most fun and most satisfying.

In the top 4 I came up against Martin Richards, “King of Riga”, DMEC Driver, highly experienced, etc. I have always had great respect for Martin and was excited to battle with him even in such terrible conditions. His lead was pretty good, having a wobble on initiation causing me to hang back a bit but was able to reel that back in by the tight hairpin. The track at this point had a couple of dry areas so we could pick up more speed. My lead went well, knowing there was a drier patch in the centre section of the track I could commit harder to the tight hairpin and started to pull a gap on Martin giving me the win!

This now meant I was in the final against Axel Hilderbrand. I have never battled Axel and saw that he had been really consistent on his initiations all day. We set off side by side and as predicted, his initiation was great, pulling a slight gap through corner 1. I had to use the dry section to close the gap so I went all in, keeping the power on as long as I dared but ended up on full handbrake, totally locked up, sideways heading towards him into the hairpin. Luckily instinct kicked in at the right time to release everything and get straight back onto the power, so we completed the lap nice and close together.

Last run of the day was for me to lead in against Axel. All season I had been practicing launching the car with minimal wheel spin, heavily slipping the clutch and this paid off for this. I looked in the mirror and I left Axel behind on the straight. The initiation went well and ended the run actually producing some smoke from the rear tyres, which was a first all day and obviously with my hand out of the window!

After a ridiculously hard day, with a few wobbles at the beginning, I took the win! Myself and the team were over the moon, not believing how my driving had progressed through the day. It was an amazing end to the season and the additional points meant I came 4th in the championship overall.

Last weekend, we headed back down south to Brands Hatch for the penultimate meeting of the Time Attack and Drift Pro Championship. Plus, there was the iconic Go Japan! show on, so of course we had our very own trade stand too! Unfortunately, pocket rocket competitor, Michael Hume, couldn’t make this round but we were delighted to see Tegiwa Imports director, Luke Sedzikowski, make his return in the now turbocharged Tsuki Honda NSX. So, let’s jump right in and see how the Tegiwa Racing team got on!

Luke Sedzikowski – Tsuki Honda NSX

After a very hard work of testing and plenty of development still in the works, unfortunately the result just wasn’t to be for Luke and Tsuki. However, with plenty of lessons learned and steps in the right direction, we can’t wait to get Tsuki back out at Snetterton. A best time of 48.88 was the best Luke could do which is still very respectable, but it’s great to know that there’s plenty left in it! We’ll be releasing a full race report on Tsuki very soon, so stay tuned for that.

Mikey Birch – K-Swap Honda Civic

Mike was keen to break his personal best at Brands Hatch of 53.9 heading into this weekend, and being 0.2 seconds away from this in the first session of the day showed just how fast he was going to be! Throughout the day Mike pushed harder and harder, eventually setting a 53.5 with an aim of smashing the 52’s in the final. However, due to traffic in the final Mike found it difficult to put a lap together but still attained a 2nd place finish for all his hard work. Thanks to the Garmin Catalyst that Mike uses, data shows an optimal time well into the 52 seconds.

Dave started the day off at Brands rapidly, setting a new PB in the warm up session. Heading into practice there wasn’t much space to be had with the track pretty full so unfortunately Dave couldn’t push on. After a big crash in qualifying, the session timer showed only 5 minutes so Dave went out feeling a bit nervous after seeing the damage so didn’t push as much as he wanted and dropped down to 3rd place. Into the final a low 51 was on the cards and as Dave pushed on, a hard boost pipe popped off before he could even do a lap. Heading straight back into the pits, Dave’s pit crew got straight to work to get him back out. With 7 mins left on the clock, he knew he didn’t have long to find the space and put in a good lap. However, on the second lap Dave did a 52.2 which was up on all his other sectors but half way round another boost pipe popped off and with only a few minutes left on the clock he decided to just call it a day. Even though Dave suffered these problems, he still managed to secure a third place finish. With only 1 round left, it’s all to play for as it’s so close in the points for 2nd and 3rd in the championship.

A 52.637 was the best Aaron could manage but he’ll be keen to put on some blistering pace as we head to Snetterton for the final round as the 2nd/3rd battle in is very much still on!

It was an incredible day for Ilya who went the fastest he’s ever been around Brands Hatch. Unfortunately he was 4 thousands of a tenth from being the fastest Clio ever around the track, but we’re sure he’ll obliterate that next year! A super quick time of 51.832 was enough to earn Ilya a 3rd place finish for his efforts on the day, just 2 hundredths of second place!

What a weekend for Tegiwa Racing’s Bizz after his best result of the season back at Donington! After flying all weekend (and his car literally tearing itself to shreds), Bizz made it all the way to the top 4 after beating his fellow rival Ollie Evans! After missing out against Josh King, Bizz was up against friend of Tegiwa, Pauly C. Unfortunately a tap to Paul’s car on the chase run but Paul out of action and rendering Bizz to 4th position. All in all though, a massive improvement on his first time here and he’ll be more than keen to put on a show next time out at Snetterton

We’re back with a round up from the action at Donington Park, one of our local tracks, where the Tegiwa Racing team were hopeful of collecting another haul of points and some silverware too. Again, Luke Sedzikowski, wasn’t racing but we had a full house otherwise, complete with Adam Shepherd representing us in TCR UK. Let’s look at how the guys got on!

Mikey Birch – K-Swap Honda Civic EK

Donington was a very familiar circuit for Mike, having done several track days here over the past few years so was hoping to put it all to good use! His PB from last year was a 1:19.345 so it was a good target to aim for. His car ran faultlessly throughout the day and Mike went faster in each session until the final when he knocked it out the park with a blistering 1:18.00, which secured him a 1st place finish in the Pocket Rocket class!

Following on from Oulton Park, Michael Hume was in great form in his K-series Clio slowly building on his times and confidence throughout each session. Michael managed to get a 1:22.28 around the Donington Park National Circuit!

It’s no surprise that fast Dave put in the times at Donington Park for round 6 of the UK Time Attack Championship in the Club 2WD class! He had a target that he wanted to achieve which was a 1:14, but unfortunately, he wasn’t able to achieve that, even though his Garmin Catalyst optimal lap said he was on the right track to get it. However, he did secure himself a 1:15.40 which is 2.5 seconds faster than his previous PB. This was enough to earn a podium finish, eventually ended up in 3rd place. Well done, Dave!

Aaron was hoping to turn his luck around after Oulton Park, and that he certainly did. Achieving his fastest lap in the warm up session with a 1.15.1, Aaron unfortunately didn’t improve on it. However, a 1:15.390 in the final was enough to secure a 2nd place finish in the Club 2wd class and another big haul of points too.

RuskiWeldFab a.k.a Ilya Krylov put his turbocharged Clio through its paces at Donington Park for round 6 of the UK Time Attack Championship, competing in Club Pro. Ilya secured a best time of 1:14.8 around the National Circuit, however, this was disallowed due to exceeding track limits (naughty naughty Ilya!) so his second best lap time was a 1:15.21! This meant that Ilya finished in 4th place, and for the first time this season, not on the podium. Ilya will definitely be hoping to change that when we visit Brands Hatch at the end of the month!

After an awesome trip to Germany for the Nurburgring Drift Cup, Bizz was hopeful to continue his fine run of form heading into round 6 of the Drift Pro Championship. Plus, his LSZ was now equipped with a Quaife Engineering sequential gearbox that was sure to turn his car right up to 11! After causing some absolute carnage in the practice by destroying a cone, shredding some rubber and heading backwards into the tyre wall (a great advert for the tyre section on Alloy Wheel Shop we must say), Bizz was driving the hell out of his car, eventually making it into the top 4! Bizz earned himself a 3rd place for all his hard work and finally got a chance to show his custom OMP One-Art suit on the podium. Well done Bizz, a trophy that was thoroughly deserved.

What a weekend for the penultimate round of the TCR UK Championship at Donington Park for Adam Shepherd. Adam started the weekend strong, qualifying P1 by over 2 tenths of a second and also breaking the record for the fastest ever lap in a TCR car whilst carrying 30KG of success ballast. Converting pole position into a lights to flag victory in Race 1, taking the win, lap record and fastest lap along the way. Race 2 saw Adam start P10 for the reverse grid. Lap 1 Turn 1, Adam took a large hit damaging the balance of the car and slowing him down but he still managed to fight back to P3 and an eventual P2 finish after a DSQ for the on-road race winner.

If you’ve been following our socials over the past few weeks, you will have see that our very own Ian Phillips, has been representing Tegiwa Racing in Europe. Having taken the trip to compete in the Nurburgring Drift Cup with his supercharged LS3 350Z, here’s what Bizz had to say on his time in Germany:

“This was the first time that I had been out of country drifting, so it was already a special experience but being able to do it at the Nurburgring for the Skylimit Drift Cup made it even more special! The trip was originally planned for 2020 where we then hoped to do Iron Drift King the week after. Almost as soon as I had booked the tickets, COVID hit and the world stopped. Fast forward two years and here we are.

The long trip, via Dover, took us around 16 hours to complete and we arrived at a foggy Nurburgring, with some rented single seaters doing some practice on the bit of track we would be drifting on. GT Masters was also on the same weekend we were there, so the ring was a hive of activity. All we had to do on Friday was set up in the pits, clean the car and go through scrutineering, which was great as we were all exhausted.

Saturday – Qualifying

Saturday didn’t start so well as I set my alarm incorrectly, being woken by my team only 20mins before briefing so that was a shock but we made it in time. The briefing was a new experience as well being given in German, followed by a UK translation. Turns out the UK translation was only about 20% of the German but nevertheless we got the important points and went to set the car up ready for its first laps of the GP circuit.

I set off from the line on my first lap and it quickly became apparent we had a misfire on the LS3. This was a surprise as the car ran faultlessly on the dyno only a few days prior and this started a long day of fault finding, telephone calls to my mapper John and engine specialist Craig. Although we had three practice sessions before qualifying, they quickly finished with us trying other things to find the source of the fault. New NGK spark plugs got fitted and new leads left us only to believe it was a coil pack or something more significant at fault.

It was now time for qualifying, I went out not knowing if the car would be ok or not so I just gave it everything and she ran smoothly. The run was pretty good, one of the best of the day giving me 75 points. We checked the car over and went out for my second. During this run, the car misfired badly, affecting my run in speed and ruining my line so I got zero points for that one. Luckily, at NDC you’re given three qualifying laps. This time, knowing the misfire would happen, I managed to work around it, laid down a good lap and got 84 points BUT had no idea where that put me in the field of drivers.

The qualifying results were read out in the NDC tent, where all the drivers and teams gathered to hear how they had done. They started off at 32, with Denise Ritzmann taking that spot, after having a load of throttle body issues. The positions kept on increasing and by the time we got 15th we thought with my runs I hadn’t made the cut so we all started to look a bit disheartened and thought we would spend Sunday watching from the grandstand. Then all of a sudden “8th place – Ian Phillips” came from Andy Jaenen! We couldn’t believe it, not only were we in the game but in a competitive spot for Sunday’s competition. Now it is time to fix the car!!!

One thing we really did enjoy about the qualification results was that everybody in the tent applauded every driver for their qualification position and the top qualifier got a trophy too. This is something that has gotten a little lost in UK drifting but it reminded me of the older days in BDC.

The team worked tirelessly into the night, Adele went out and got the full team pizzas as our plan to head into town for a nice evening meal and few beers was well and truly gone by this point. They checked the wiring, valve springs, leads, changed all eight coil packs to the spares that Denise kindly loaned to us and found a cracked spark plug. At 10pm we fired the LSZ up and instead of the popping and banging at 2000 rpm like before, she ran as smooth as silk. We all cheered, pushed the car into the gazebo and headed to the apartments to get some rest ready for Sunday.

Sunday – Battles

Sunday started off with some open practice, where I managed to get Adele into the passenger seat for a couple of laps. I couldn’t hear her screaming but the videos show some pretty amazing facial expressions as she had never been in the car at that speed before! On the first lap the car stalled out at the bottom of Little Monaco and wouldn’t restart so we had to get the “tow of shame” back to the hot pits only to find the fuse that controlled the injectors and ignition coils had blown. A new, better quality fuse was put in and away we went.

Battle practice followed, giving me the chance to see what lines other drivers were taking, what speed they entered at, etc. It quickly became apparent that I was entering much faster than most, meaning I would have to lift in the chase position or give more space at that part of the circuit. Otherwise we were always close to chase and gave me a good confidence boost before the battles in the afternoon.

Battles started with me against the Frenchman, Mickael Nuss. I led first, as the higher qualifier always leads in the first half of a battle. I laid down a good first lap, noticing a metallic grinding sound as I went around the first corner. Adam Simmons was my spotter and let me know that Mikael had spun/come off track behind me so I knew I didn’t have to be on his door from the start line. I gave Mikael a little space in the run up so I could build my speed as I wanted and I quickly caught him up through the Schumacher S and Little Monaco and the run was over. Even though I was granted the win, I couldn’t help but notice that metallic noise again just after initiation. I called the team and they ran down knowing we had about 20 mins before my next battle. It turned out that I had sheared the transmission mounting bolt so that it could float at certain speeds. The car was jacked up and Matt got underneath with Bret firing tools at him so the captivated part of the bolt could be drilled out and a new one fitted. Whilst this was going on Nathan and V were videoing everything for the vlog and Adele and Adam were watching the other battles to see who I would be up against next. It was a relief when Matt shouted “Done!” from under the car and I headed off to the start line with time to spare.

Next up was a very cool Porsche 968 driven by Hospach Ingo, V8 powered and Adam had let me know he was on road tyres and to give him some extra space in chase. The battle ended up with us door on door over the line which pleased the crowd and allowed us to progress through to the Great 8.

This battle was against a boss kitted S14 with a Hellcat engine. After speaking with the driver, Stoeckli Roger, I found out he also had over 1000Nm in his monster and we knew this battle was going to sound amazing if nothing else. He pushed too hard behind me and spun out just after the Schumacher S meaning I had the advantage going into the chase. I followed closely knowing he had the power to run away if I wasn’t careful but he had no answer for the speed of the LSZ meaning I progressed into the Top 4 against the gentleman, Clint Van Oort. Clint had been a massive part in our weekend, helping to source parts for the misfire and guiding us through how this event worked. He’s a great driver and from the moment I saw him on the entry list I hoped that we would get a chance to battle.

Clint qualified higher than myself so he led, just before I set off I got a message from Adam saying “don’t give him an inch”. I knew it was going to be a close battle but that spurred me on even more. We set off with me keeping by his side up to the acceleration cone, at which point we both dropped the hammer with me tucked in close behind. On initiation, I could see his trailing front wheel was locked from left foot braking and I was close enough to stay out of the clouds of smoke from his rear tyres. We transitioned at the same time and decelerated ready for the Little Monaco corner. At this point I kept coming off the handbrake ready to apply power as soon as I started to see him accelerate again. We went up the hill with only a couple of feet between us and over the finish line. I was so happy with that and it was the best I had chased anyone before. Now it was Clint’s turn to chase. I threw everything I had at it, putting in a quality lead line, all the time I was seeing flashes of Clint’s yellow S14 in the wing mirrors. His chase was brilliant. The judges couldn’t split us apart so asked for a “One More Time”.

Usually in the UK this is two runs, where both drivers get an opportunity to lead and chase as per normal. For this series the top qualifier gets to choose if they lead or chase and the decision is made after one run. I didn’t know that at the time so I went in expecting the same battle format as before.

Clint chose to lead, this time I knew I had to push even harder but unfortunately he pulled more of a gap going up Little Monaco and with the one run decision from the judges the win was awarded to Clint. I can’t complain as it was so much fun and even his team were applauding my efforts. They’re a top bunch of lads.

That wasn’t it for me though, I now was in the battle for 3rd and 4th against Johnny Voogdt in his E36 M3 BMW. He qualified 3rd and had been laying down perfect lines all weekend. I followed well, giving him some space at the beginning of the run and tucking in close towards the end. I did get caught up on the inside of his car at the bottom of Little Monaco and had to readjust which I knew the judges would have spotted. On my lead, I accelerated away putting in a great line and making a big gap between Johnny and I. Just before the finish line I dropped a wheel off the edge of the circuit into the gravel. Even with my good lead line, those two small mistakes gave Johnny the win.

Now it was time for the award ceremony where I was awarded “Best Chase Run” for the battles against Clint. I know I hadn’t got on the podium but in my eyes this was just as good as a win. It marks a significant improvement in my driving, both at speed and in proximity so I was over the moon. It also meant that the car and I were very popular, I was the only UK driver and the only Nissan 350z, being bright orange in Alloy Wheel Shops colours helped too! We made lots of new friends that I hope to drive against again soon and LOTS of new fans.

Mikey Birch – K-Swap Honda Civic EK

Now equipped with a fancy headlight intake duct, Mike was aiming to make the most of his knowledge at his home track. Mike was eager to break into the 36’s, and that he did, twice. First in qualifying and secondly in the final. With a new personal best time of 1:36.538, this secured Mike a comfortable 3rd place finish for his days work.

Michael Hume – K-Swap Clio 182

Back after a couple of rounds away due to a complete engine malfunction, Michael was back with a freshly built K20. It was fair to say Michael was fairly apprehensive due to a few niggling electrical issues he’d suffered in the run up to Oulton Park. However, after suffering with a faulty relay in the warm up, Michael had got his car running back up to full form and was getting faster and faster throughout the day, slowly building his confidence back up in the car. A time of 1:40.449 saw Michael beat his PB and earn a 6th place finish in the pocket rocket class.

David Lawrence – Leon Cupra

David’s Cupra was now boasting a full CSF Cooling catalogue on his Cupra to ensure his car ran at optimal temperatures on the hottest weekend of the year. However, with some teething issues during the warm up with a boost pipe blowing off, and an oil line failing during practice, David sure did have his work cut out. Pulling it out of the bag in the final though with a 1.32.860 was enough to secure David another 3rd place finish and a decent haul of points too!

Aaron Adams – BMW M4

Unfortunately, Aaron didn’t have his best weekend here at Oulton Park with his gearbox suffering with the high temperatures out on track. With a best time of 1:33.383 in the final this saw Aaron finish in 4th place. He’ll be looking to rectify his temperature issues before Donington Park next month.

Ilya Kyrlov – Turbo Renault Clio

Suffering with a slightly twitchy car during the opening first sessions of the weekend, Ilya actually beat his PB during the warm up in the morning at Oulton Park. With a few suspension tweaks, Ilya really pushed on during the afternoon. A time of personal best time of 1:32.786 in qualifying showed us the huge potential that both Ilya and his car have! In the end, Ilya finished in 2nd place and another good chunk of points too.

Ian ‘Bizz’ Phillips – LS3 Nissan 350Z

Sometimes it’s just not meant to be in the world of motorsport, and that was certainly the case for our Drift Pro driver, Bizz, this weekend. With some awesome runs in practice, we were super sad to see the car run off the track during qualifying with a problem. A snapped locating pin on the back of a tensioner meant that Bizz lost his power steering. With the help of his team, they managed to fix the problem but unfortunately were ruled out as there was no qualification run. However, we know Bizz will be back bigger and better than ever as he now prepares for his first ever European drift event at the Nurburgring in a couple of weeks time!

Adam Shepherd – Hyundai i30N

With a recent switch to the Area Motorsport team and a brand new livery, Adam was set for an awesome weekend at Oulton Park for rounds 8 & 9 of TCR UK. After being the quickest on circuit for most of testing and free practice, he headed into qualifying feeling confident. Adam ended up qualifying P2 just 3 hundredths off pole! With the track temperature rapidly increasing the car balance started to shift towards some understeer, having good race pace , Adam sat with the leader finishing P2 and therefore placing us P9 for the reverse grid. The start of race 2 was a little hectic having ended the lap P11, however, he pushed back through to finish P5 and another solid finish!

This year of Time Attack sees us head down south for three rounds at Brands Hatch, two of which were a double header as part of the Tunerfest South show. Let’s take a look at how the Tegiwa Racing team got on over the weekend!

Luke Sedzikowski – BMW M240i

Unfortunately, our beloved Honda NSX was suffering with issues this weekend, so Luke took our recently acquired BMW M240i instead. Due to the modifications of the car, Luke competed in the club 2WD class rather than his usual pro class. Although we’d modified the car to be eligible to compete, this is still very much a road going vehicle.

The Friday and Saturday turned out to be two of the hottest days of the year, so it was great for Luke that he still had creature comforts like his air conditioning to keep him cool out on track. The lack of a limited slip differential however, was apparent throughout the course of the weekend, as the F22’s chassis was a riot to keep under control, with the car spinning the wheels in most of the corners when trying to get on the power. It’s not the slightest of machines either, weighing in at 1,610kg including our driver. Luke’s fastest time of the weekend was a 53.962.

Mikey Birch – K-Swap Honda Civic EK

Now equipped with a host of aerodynamic upgrades since Cadwell Park, Mike was aiming to make the most his newfound downforce. Setting a time of 54.157 was enough to earn Mike a third place trophy for his efforts during round 3.

Keen to crack the 53’s in round 4, Mike was pushing his car harder and harder throughout the day. When it came to the final, Mike finally managed to break into them with a 53.940, however, everybody else also upped their pace which meant Mike finished in 4th place, narrowly missing out on a spot on the podium.

David Lawrence – Leon Cupra

David had certainly had his work cut out since Cadwell Park last month with his engine blowing up which left him with just six weeks to source and fit another. With the help of new sponsors and friends, his Cupra was ready for Brands but was still being plagued by a few niggling issues. A 52.258 in round 3’s final, just 0.045 behind fellow Tegiwa Racing’s Aaron Adams, earned David a third place trophy.

Unfortunately during round 4, the Cupra’s E-diff was causing problems. Still wanting to push on though, David was fighting to break into the 51’s after knocking over 2 seconds off his PB. A time of 52.305 in the final meant that David finished in 5th place. We’re looking forward to seeing David back at Oulton Park next time round after he’s got his car running 100% again.

Ilya Krylov – Turbo Renault Clio

Now equipped with a MFactory helical LSD, Ilya was able to push his turbocharged Clio harder than ever before during Brands Hatch. A new personal best time of 52.536 earned Ilya a 2nd place finish during round 3.

Trying to break the 51’s, like many of his Tegiwa Racing teammates, during round 4 proved to be an elusive task. However, it was great to see Ilya put in a 52.271, a nice improvement from the previous days final. This stood Ilya in 4th place during round 4.

Aaron Adams – BMW M4

The battle was well and truly on between Aaron and David in the battle of Club 2WD this weekend. However, it was Aaron who came out just on top with a 52.213 to take 2nd place in round 3.

Unable to improve on his time in the final, a 52.321 meant that Aaron finished in 6th place during round 4. Hopefully, Aaron will be able to show decent pace at Oulton Park as this should be a track where his M4 can really put down the power!

Ian ‘Bizz’ Phillips – LS3 Nissan 350Z

Bizz was back stronger than ever for Brands Hatch which was absolutely awesome to see! The long straights and turns of Brands Hatch was always going to be a good match for his 700 horsepower LS3 swapped 350Z!

Bizz qualified 4th and 6th over the two days and earned himself a place in the top 8 each day too. We saw some super impressive driving from Bizz, and as always is a real crowd pleaser, forever putting on a show for the crowd! Plus, we reckon Bizz looks mega in his new OMP one-art suit too. We’re looking forward to watching him smash it at Oulton Park next month!

Adam Shepherd – Hyundai i30N

For the first time this season, the TCR UK Championship crossed paths with the Time Attack calendar. This was the first time that we saw Tegiwa Racing’s Adam Shepherd doing the business out on track! With Adam starting at the back of the bunch in P25 for race 1 in wet conditions, it’s fair to say he’d got his work cutout. However, Adam put the hammer down and his pace was evident as he climbed all the way up to 5th place!

Race 2 saw Adam start P5, however, he was taken out on the second corner with a large hit from behind damaging the car badly causing an immediate DNF which was very frustrating.

Race 3 having just received spare parts from another team (Alex Ley & his team) to get Adam on the grid with 10 minutes to spare, he drove back from 5th to 2nd place and onto the podium carrying 30KG of success ballast! A mega drive by Adam and we can’t wait to see more of the same at Oulton Park.

The new season of Time Attack and Drift Pro finally got underway last weekend as we headed back to the Lincolnshire countryside at Cadwell Park. This was our first outing for the Tegiwa Racing outfit, with 7 members of the team in action over the course of the weekend. We’ll go through each member of the team individually and take a closer look at how they got on.

Luke Sedzikowski – Tsuki Honda NSX

It’s been a roller coaster of a ride for the head honcho of Tegiwa Racing with our Honda NSX proving to be very temperamental during the test session on the Saturday. However, with Bourne HPP working their magic on Tsuki, Luke managed to put in some flying laps for round 1 on Sunday. Despite battling some ongoing issues throughout the day, Luke set a time of 1:32.371 which was enough to secure a first place finish in the Pro class!

Looking to add to the first haul of silverware, Round 2 of Time Attack on Monday proved to be problematic for Luke and the NSX. The car only managed 4 laps in qualifying before the gearbox decided it didn’t want to play ball, therefore, we had to make the call to retire the car for the day. We’re now on the hunt for a new gearbox for Tsuki before Brands Hatch next month so we can come back bigger and stronger!

Mikey Birch – K-Swap Honda Civic EK

With Mike all set for his second season in Time Attack, he was fired up more than ever before to improve on his times at Cadwell Park from last year. Setting a 1:40.610 in the final of round 1 secured Mike a 3rd place finish in the Pocket Rocket class and another trophy to add to his collection.

Keen to go even quicker in round 2, Mike pushed harder and harder throughout the day to shave those last few tenths of his time. However, during qualifying, Mike’s aux belt bracket snapped, but thanks to the chaps at Area Motorsport, Mike was able to rectify the issue and get the car fixed for the final. Knocking over a second off the previous days personal best, Mike set a blistering time of 1:39.531 to take 2nd place as well as another decent haul of points.

David Lawrence – Leon Cupra

David has been developing and testing his Cupra at any given opportunity over the winter break with a view to be right up there in the Club 2WD class for the 2022 season. Smashing his personal best out of the park with a 1:36.879 in round 1, David clinched a 3rd place spot on the podium. An awesome reward for all of his hard work during the off-season.

With David’s time dropping and dropping throughout round 2, it just wasn’t meant to be for him as unfortunately his engine gave way on the last turn. Luckily, nobody was hurt and David was safe, but his mission now starts to replace the engine before we head to Brands Hatch in 6 weeks time.

Ilya Krylov – Turbo Renault Clio

A man that needs no introduction, Ilya’s Clio was running the weekends action with a £200 eBay gearbox with an open differential, not ideal, but sometimes needs must. With the boost turned down to avoid overwhelming the gearbox, Ilya put together a 1:42.850 to secure 3rd place in the Club Pro class in round 1.

After a session on the dyno over Sunday night, the mighty Clio was ready to rock in round 2. Performing better than the previous day, Ilya knocked 2 seconds off his personal best for the weekend with a 1:40.112 to take another 3rd place finish.

Aaron Adams – BMW M4

Dropping round 1 on the Sunday, we were delighted to welcome Aaron to the paddock on Monday morning ready for round 2. Still learning the characteristics of his M4 after the switch from his Evo, Aaron set a time of 1:35.983 in the final to earn himself a 3rd place finish and his first piece of silverware of the season. Going into the tracks that suit his M4 later in the year, Aaron will be one to watch out for so make sure you watch this space!

Michael Hume – K-Swap Renault Clio

After putting in the hours during the past 3/4 months, k-swapping his Clio 182, Michael was ready to let rip at Cadwell Park. Without having the chance to see what his newly developed machine was capable of yet, Michael was still getting to grips with Clio over the course of round 1. A time of 1:45.130 in the finals secured Michael a 7th place finish overall in Pocket Rocket.

Round 2 saw Michael knock even more time off his lap as his confidence grew in the car. However, a technical issue during qualifying meant that Michael had to retire the car for the day. We’re hoping that Michael can diagnose and rectify the issue before Brands Hatch as we’re keen to see him back in action as soon as possible!

Ian ‘Bizz’ Phillips – LS3 Nissan 350Z

Representing the Tegiwa Racing team in the Drift Pro Championship was Bizz in his supercharged 350Z, wearing a brand new Alloy Wheel Shop livery! We caught up with Bizz after his first outing of the season, here’s what he had to say:

Drift Pro Round 1

The inaugural round of the 2022 Drift Pro championship took place at Cadwell Park. This event carried a few firsts; first time in drift competition at Cadwell, first time competing in 2022 and the first time out in the Alloy Wheel Shop LSZ!

The track ran through the trees after the infamous mountain, which is a very twisty section with lots of undulations and changes in camber. A few of the drivers were concerned how well it would work as a circuit, but after a few laps of getting our heads around the technical aspects, it turned out to be one of the best places to drift. For the spectators it was more like a rally stage, with the cars screaming in the distance, then bursting into view on full lock with smoke bellowing from the rear wheels!

I have been wrestling with the car for some time but towards the end of 2021 I really started to feel at home behind the wheel again. I am happy to say this has continued into the beginning of 2022. The pressure of qualification is still something I need to work on, only managing to get 10th in qualification, however, it meant I would be in the twinning battles later in the day.

My first battle was against Dave Bastin, in his beautiful AE86 that Tegiwa have just designed too! As he qualified higher than myself, he led first with me hot on his heels. My chase was great, earning the most entertaining chase of the top 16 from the judges, ending with a gentle tap of his rear wheel with my door. I took the win and got through to the top 8.

This battle was against Ollie Evans, a great driver, that usually leaves me in his smoke. With some guidance from my team, I stuck with him off the line and chased as hard as I could, giving me the advantage as I went to lead. We both pushed hard, I put down a good lead line, but the red mist descended a bit too much on the final corner where I pushed a little too hard and caused the car to stall. Ollie went pass and took the win. It was still a great experience, and I learnt a lot about my own ability ready for round 2 on Monday.

Drift Pro Round 2

Day 2 at Cadwell Park started off well with great weather and plenty of twinning practice where I hoped to capitalise on the lessons learnt from the day before. Managing to get plenty of practice battles in with the other drivers which I always find helpful to get an understanding of the line, entry speeds, etc.

The bar was raised from the day before, with all drivers appearing to be more confident on the technical track. I qualified 11th this time putting me against Dave Bastin again. I won the day before so I knew he would be pushing hard.

When he led there was nothing between our driving so the judges deemed it a 5/5 score. It was then my turn to lead. We both initiated into the first corner well and on-line. Dave then pushed a little too hard, trying to get alongside me heading to zone 2 which caused him to spin, giving me the win and progressing to the next stage.

This time I was against fellow gent, Matt Denham. When he gets behind the wheel, he is one of the fastest drivers out there, so I knew I had to be with him and not give an inch. I had never competed against Matt before but had watched him many times taking down some of the greats in drifting.

We set off from the line together and I started to edge ahead as we went up the mountain knowing that when we got on the flat, he would accelerate hard. Having my big, Magnuson supercharged V8 helped a lot in this situation where I could shift into 3rd at the bottom of the mountain and use the torque to get me up the hill without needing any more gear changes. He was seriously fast, I kept up during zones 1 and 3, but he did manage to pull a bit of a gap in zone 2. I’m happy to say that was my best chase I had done in my drifting career!

It was then Matt’s turn to chase. His chase driving had been flawless all weekend and unfortunately for me that was the case in our battle, with him taking the win but by a narrow margin. I was buzzing! Even though I didn’t win, I was so happy to give Matt a real fight for the win and put on a great show for the crowds.

I now stand in 7th place in the championship, with Brands Hatch being our next stop. That is a super-fast circuit and one that the LSZ really suits so fingers crossed we get on to the podium there!

A word from Luke Sedzikowksi, driver and Tegiwa Imports director:

“After competing in Time Attack for the past 2 years I’ve decided to create a Tegiwa Racing team so that we have a driver in as many disciplines and series as possible representing the Tegiwa brand. We’ve selected a broad mixture of cars to join the team and I’m super excited to be working with this fantastic team of drivers!”

Excited to see what vehicles our team is comprised of? Let’s take a closer look at the cars you’ll be seeing representing the Tegiwa brand this season.

Some of you may recognise Michael’s Clio from Time Attack last year as he participated in various single round entries. Now with a hunger to take on the best, Michael has removed the standard F4R and replaced it with a sorted K20. We can’t wait to help him out with this build and look forward to seeing him in a full season Time Attack entry this year!

Heading into TCR UK for 2022 on the back of winning the Type R Trophy Championship last year is Adam Shepherd. It’s fair to say that Adam stormed the season last year taking 10x 1st places, 2x 2nd places and taking every lap record along the way to secure the championship. We’re hoping Adam can carry on his incredible run of form and represent Tegiwa on the TCR UK stage in 2022!

No stranger to working with Tegiwa, Chris, the owner of CN Signs is often at Tegiwa HQ wrapping one of our race cars. He’s previously piloted our NSX to victory in 2020 in the Club Enduro Championship, back when it was built for endurance racing, and now Chris will be doing a full season in the Type R Trophy! Taking the hot seat in one of the Motion Motorsport EP3’s this year, you definitely won’t miss this EP3 with Motion’s striking gold livery either. Chris’s season gets underway this Saturday as the first round of the Type R Trophy kicks off at Croft.

We’ll be bringing you updates throughout the season on how our drivers are getting on, as well as plenty of content and features!
